Our Story

Meet Tim and Claire Heard

From the start, we both have held a strong passion for working outdoors, with the sun on our face and mud on our pants. Tim has a vivacious background in clowning, volunteering (and living) at a National Park, and currently works in public safety; while Claire meandered through jobs settled across the globe from Yellowstone National Park to Tanzania, spending several years on a flower farming just a mile from the now established Heard Homestead, and currently working as a special education teacher. 2020 is the year we decided to go all in and make our home a place we can work our land and build a lifestyle out of getting more than sufficient vitamin D — our dream!

We are settled in the cozy town of Jeffersonton, Virginia, surrounded by rolling farm land and with the Blue Ridge Mountains on the horizon. Chickens, cows, and a small garden was the springboard for The Heard Homestead. Tim’s experience as a volunteer doing sawyer work allowed us to launch our tree services soon after; which we are happy to say has grown tremendously in just a few years. It has been so thrilling to see our little dream come to fruition so quickly!

In 2023, we added a baby girl to the family, making our days that much more wild! As 2024 unfolds, we are eager continue to serve you superior and safe tree services, while we take a short break from food production to focus on our little girl.

Meet Michu

The heard Homestead’s original mascot is Michu, a furry member of the Heard Family. Michu is always ready to munch on some veggies or corral (chase) the chickens. He is our trusty companion, sure to be at our toes whatever the task!
